READER QUESTION: What is the best oil for deep frying?

When deep-frying foods, it's best to go with a relatively low-cost oil that has a relatively high smoke point. "Low cost" because you typically need several cups of it, and high smoke point just in case the temperature of the oil spikes between batches.

For most of our deep-frying projects here at Simply Recipes, we recommend peanut oil.

If you have a nut allergy, try plain vegetable oil, grapeseed oil, or any of the oils we recommend in this post on The Best Oils For Cooking.

Happy deep frying!
