When Is Prime Day 2022?

Amazon Prime Day starts Tuesday, July 12 at 12 AM PDT and runs through 11:59 PM PDT on Wednesday, July 13, 2022.

In past years, other retailers have also taken advantage of the rush of Prime Day and held major online sales at the same time, so look out for simultaneous sales at places like Best Buy, Target, and Home Depot, among others.

What Is Amazon Prime Day?

Prime Day has been happening annually since 2015, initially celebrating Amazon’s 20-year anniversary and hoping to compete with other massive sale days. It remains an enormously popular event for the millions of Prime members who want even better prices. It is a several-day stretch of insane deals (often rivaling those you’ll find on Cyber Monday or similar events) and is a bit exclusive.

It's only available to Prime members who pay annual dues (or about $15 per month) to get free Prime shipping and other benefits from Amazon. If you’re not a member, this may be the best time to get on board. You can sign up for a free 30-day membership online to get access to the deals—just remember to cancel if you don't want to continue.

How Can I Find the Best Deals on Prime Day?

There are a few ways to get ahead of the big day. First, download the Amazon app or install the Amazon Assistant browser tool. “Every year is a little different, but you may receive advanced notice of deals, and you can ask to be notified that items you are interested in go on sale," says Trae Bodge, smart shopping and deals expert.

There are also always “lightning deals,” which last an even more limited time and have a more limited quantity, but are typically even better offers, so keep an eye out for these alerts, too. When the time comes, you can also check the “upcoming deals” section to see what’ll be discounted soon (and prepare your cart, if you’re really ahead of things!). You can also click “Watch this Deal” to get notifications about a specific item’s price.

Bodge’s top insider tip, though, is to take advantage of your Alexa-enabled smart speaker. If you have one, just say, "Keep me updated on Prime Day."

What Categories Have the Best Sales?

While every section and category of items will see countless major sales, we’re looking out for deals across cooking supplies and kitchen products. In years past, some of the best deals for the kitchen have been for “countertop kitchen appliances, like air fryersfood processors, blenders, and toasters. Prime Day is a perfect time to get a great deal on a jazzy new kitchen appliance,” according to Bodge.
